The Detroit Homeownership Center CDC is a 501c3 nonprofit certified housing counseling agency in Detroit, MI. The mission statement of the Detroit Homeownership Center CDC is to facilitate the empowerment of individuals to achieve and maintain homeownership through effective education and counseling, before, during and after the home purchase. The Detroit Homeownership Center CDC (DHCC) was formed as Detroit Homeownership Counseling Collaborative in 1997 as a partnership of non-profit, for profit, and governmental housing providers; lenders, realtors, the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) and the Fannie Mae Detroit Partnership Office.

The Detroit Homeownership Center CDC blends both theory and practice in its attempt to preserve, strengthen and promote homeownership. Kenneth L. Scott, the Executive Director of the Detroit Homeownership Center CDC, is a HUD Certified Housing Counselor in Homeownership Counseling, Prepurchase Homeownership Education and Credit Counseling; a former preferred housing counselor instructor for Neighborhood Legal Services Michigan, Southwest Housing & Economic Solutions, Wayne Metro Community Association and National Faith Homebuyers.

The Detroit Homeownership Center CDC provides counseling and education to residents, whether they are renting homes, attempting to buy homes or simply trying to retain homeownership. The Detroit Homeownership Center CDC works at preserving homeownership for homeowners who are near default, strengthening homeownership in sparsely populated communities in which vacant properties exist and promoting owner-occupancy versus renting. A strong viable tax base is incumbent upon owner-occupancy being re-established in the City of Detroit.
